In the age of AI slop that is 2026, there remains one overarching question for any horseplayer or punter thinking about buying data: how does this give me value?
The data by itself — the Speed Report, the interactive Excel files, the Trendlines® report, whatever you prefer to use for your punting and analysis — is just data. Just numbers. What you, the punter, do with it is where the value and the edge come into play.
Where does the edge actually come from?
One of my favourite things to do when looking through the report is finding areas where public opinion doesn't quite line up with what my data shows.
I'm not talking about a 40-1 longshot who happens to have one super strong speed rating — though we should note, that's still important! I'm talking about the mid-priced horses the public likes but doesn't quite know what to do with: the ones sitting around 3 to 1 or 5 to 1 when the gates open.
According to our historical back-testing, that's where the real value comes into play — when a speed rating or pace rating ranks a specific horse at the top and the public doesn't see it that way. Or a horse who, in a race with four or five others expected to be in the mix, has by far the best Trendlines® rating combined with the top late pace and late kick.
Those are the scenarios where I'm going to be much more inclined to place a wager.
Should you bet every race on the card?
No — and I'd never tell any serious punter to execute an opinion on every single race. There's simply too much variance and too many unknown variables to make that a profitable endeavour.
What I'd do instead is hunt for the exact scenarios the public is likely to miss:
- An 8% jockey who becomes a 15% jockey when teaming up with a specific trainer
- A horse whose speed rating trend ranks first among all entrants
- A horse rounding into solid form who projects to be on the lead
All of these circumstances let you, the punter, find and extract value on a card far more easily — and the HKSR lets you do it without hours of manual work.
